You Never Thought You’d Be Here.
You’re finding yourself in a place you never thought you’d be. You embarked on your relationship never expecting it to end. Miscommunication, unmet needs, changing values, and a myriad of other things can contribute to the demise of a relationship. This can then impact how you view yourself and your life.
You can’t go back, and you don’t know what’s ahead.
With a therapist who understands the impact of divorce, you can find yourself again and a path forward.
You are not alone.
Thousands of people experience the end of a significant relationship each year. Even though it can feel isolating, many people are going through similar experiences.
Common experiences of people going through divorce or separation include:
Feeling worthless, not good enough, or unloveable
Fears for the future (Will I have enough money? Will I always be alone? How will my kids turn out?)

I Know What it’s Like to Start Over
Not only do I provide counselling after divorce or separation, I have personally experienced the end of a marriage and know how the proper support can make all the difference. Together, I will help you identify how you’ve been impacted and help you see a path forward.
It can be Difficult to Get the Support You Need
As we get older, our social supports may have gotten fewer. Even if you do have close friends, you do not want to continue “burdening” them. Support groups for divorce counselling are few and far between, and of those that do exist, many do not offer a process that helps you move towards a fulfilling life.
For the above reasons, I provide therapy after divorce for people needing a safe, judgement free place to explore what has happened and what you’re dealing with. Getting that kind of counseling is the first step in getting to know yourself again and creating a fulfilling life.
Together, we will explore the kind of support that will be most meaningful to you.
What to Expect from Divorce Counseling
Whether in a group or individually, I will gently guide you to identify how you have been impacted by both the relationship and the end of the relationship. Once you are able to understand where you are, we will work together to help you decide where you want to go. Using self-compassion, identifying narratives, and focusing on personal values, I can help you define a path for yourself.
I draw on the following approaches:
Mindfulness approaches to help you stay present and be aware of feelings/sensations/thought, to help you learn to tolerate challenging feelings, and to help you not become overwhelmed
Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, to help get to a place of accepting that life has changed, and then exploring your values in order to build a fulfilling life
Narrative Therapy to help understand the stories of your life and what has been lost, as well as what stories you may be telling yourself
Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT) to help address unhelpful thoughts and assumptions that can impact feelings and behaviours
Somatic, or creative arts-based interventions as needed
Trauma-informed to better understand how past experiences may have impacted you and/or your relationship
